HOSPITALITY & REFUGE

Frequently asked questions

Who can stay at the Hospitality Centre?

The Centre is intended for approved individuals, families, travellers, missionaries and organisations seeking peaceful accommodation, rest, reflection or retreat space, subject to availability and house policies.

Is the Hospitality Centre already operating?

The Hospitality Centre is a proposed development. Accommodation and guest services are not currently confirmed as operational. Opening details will be shared when facilities and staffing are ready.

Does “refuge” mean an emergency shelter?

Not automatically. Hospitality & Refuge is designed as a peaceful hospitality and retreat programme. People facing active violence, emergency homelessness, child-protection concerns or other urgent risks should be directed to the appropriate emergency, rescue or statutory service.

How much will a stay cost?

The Centre intends to use a low-cost or donation-supported model. Final rates or suggested contributions should be published only after operational costs, room types and subsidy arrangements are approved.

Can someone stay for free?

Sponsored or subsidised stays may be available where donor funding exists and the request meets programme criteria. Availability cannot be guaranteed.

Will men and women sleep in the same accommodation wing?

The planned Centre includes separate male and female wings, with family accommodation arranged separately where appropriate.

Can organisations book retreats?

Yes. Group bookings may be considered for retreats, planning sessions, trainings, conferences or reflection events that fit the Centre’s values, capacity and facility rules.

Are meals included?

Meal arrangements will depend on the stay package or group booking. The Centre intends to provide simple, nutritious food and safe drinking water as part of approved hospitality arrangements.

Can children stay?

Children may stay as part of approved family arrangements under appropriate parent, guardian or authorised caregiver supervision. The Hospitality Centre is not a substitute for child residential care.

Can I come without booking?

Walk-in access may be limited. Guests should normally contact the Centre in advance so availability, safety and accommodation can be confirmed.

Can I volunteer?

Yes, subject to programme need, screening, supervision and safeguarding requirements.

What if someone is in immediate danger?

Do not wait for a hospitality booking response. In Kenya, contact the National Police Service through 999, 112 or 911. For child-protection concerns, call the National Child Helpline 116. For gender-based violence support, call the national toll-free helpline 1195.

How can I sponsor a stay?

Donors may contribute to the guest sponsorship fund, meals, accommodation or other approved hospitality costs. The team can direct your gift according to verified need and donor designation.
